Aspen School District seeks a day custodian to begin duties immediately. Applications will be reviewed as received until the vacancy is filled.
Reports to: Head of Custodians/Maintenance and School Principal
Terms of employment: 12-month classified, Non-exempt, At Will employee.
Work Schedule: As per individual assignment in keeping with assigned 12 month work calendar.
Position Summary: The purpose of this position is to provide a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient school environment. The custodian works as caretaker of the building but is also a member of the school staff and plays an important role in achievement of school goals.
Principle Responsibilities:
- Perform maintenance duties such as replacing bulbs and tightening faucets ensuring the facilities are properly maintained, safe, and attractive;
- Perform setup and follow-up cleaning/take-down for daytime events or meetings in the facilities, including moving furniture, supplies, and/or equipment
- Clean designated areas/spaces, including washing/disinfecting, mopping, vacuuming/carpet cleaning, sweeping, dusting, trash removal, shoveling, plowing, and sanding as assigned or directed by the supervisor, reporting any damages and/or safety concerns to building administrator and head of custodians/maintenance.
- Evaluate situations (involving staff, students, parents, the public etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution to maintain a safe school environment;
- Deliver mail between school and district office, including transport of large packages and equipment
- Maintain all custodial equipment, requesting needed supplies and equipment from the supervisor in a timely manner
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested
Position Requirements:
Minimum Education or Formal Training: High School or equivalent
Minimum Experience: 1 to 3 years custodial work
Skill Requirements: Safety is an important component of this position so the employee must communicate clearly and concisely in English. Ability to read and understand chemical labels
*Bilingual Spanish communication skills are a plus*

May be exposed to hazardous materials or situations,
Exposure to noise, dust/dirt, and temperature extremes
Essential Physical Requirements:
- Constant mobility with daily transporting of up to 80 lbs, ascending/descending, working atop, and traversing to perform setups/takedowns, deliver mail and other daily janitorial duties
- Occasionally may transport over 80 lbs to perform setups/takedowns, trash removal, mail delivery and other janitorial duties
- Repetitive motion with cleaning
