Aspen School District is seeking an Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction to begin in July 2026. Applications are being accepted through March 29th, 2026.

Reports to: Superintendent

Classification: Administrator Salaried Exempt

Contract Period: 12 Months - 233 days

Compensation: Starting Salary Range $150,000 - $185,000 DOE

Position Summary

The Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Learning (K-12) ensures excellence in student achievement by providing strategic leadership for district-wide curriculum, professional development, instructional programming, and assessment systems. Reporting directly to the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent spearheads the implementation of the District’s Strategic Plan.

 

This role is responsible for ensuring rigorous curricular alignment and promoting a culture of collaborative planning. By integrating data-driven assessment systems with responsive instructional practices, the Assistant Superintendent cultivates an educational environment that upholds the district’s core values and delivers high-quality programs and services to all students.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Spearhead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the K-12 curriculum to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment with state standards and the District Strategic Plan.
  • IB Program Oversight: Provide high-level vision and support for International Baccalaureate (IB) programming, ensuring rigorous adherence to IB standards and expanding access for all students.
  • Professional Learning: Design and lead a comprehensive professional development framework that empowers educators with research-based instructional strategies and collaborative planning techniques.
  • Data-Driven Assessment: Oversee the district’s assessment systems, utilizing data analytics to monitor student progress, identify achievement gaps, and inform instructional adjustments.
  • Administrative Collaboration: Serve as a key member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet, advising on matters of educational policy, resource allocation, and long-range district goals.
  • Community Engagement: Act as a primary liaison to parents, the Board of Education, and community partners regarding curriculum initiatives and educational outcomes.

Primary Functions and Duties

  • Instructional Leadership: Lead the strategic development, mapping (Toddle), and continuous improvement of K-12 curriculum, ensuring seamless IB implementation and full alignment with Colorado Academic Standards and district objectives.
  • Organizational Alignment: Facilitate horizontal and vertical articulation across all grade levels and departments, working closely with Principals and Content Leads to integrate technology, instructional best practices, and innovative programs.
  • Assessment & Accountability: Oversee the administration and analysis of state, federal, and local assessments (CMAS/PSAT), ensuring data integrity, compliance with Colorado accreditation requirements, and the reporting of academic growth to the Board of Education.
  • Talent Development: Direct the new teacher induction process and professional development frameworks, while supervising and evaluating administrators, instructional coaches, and staff to promote a high-performance culture.
  • Operations & Safety: Lead District Safety meetings and coordinate emergency preparedness efforts; manage the Title I budget, monitor education law compliance, and oversee teacher licensure and salary advancement coursework.
  • Collaborative Governance: Serve as a core member of the Superintendent’s Leadership Team and a liaison to the District Accountability Committee (DAC), fostering transparent communication between school personnel, parents, and the community.
  • District Stewardship: Support the Superintendent in the execution of Board of Education policies, participate in all Board meetings, and perform other strategic duties as required to ensure equitable district governance.
  • Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned or requested by the Superintendent

Supervisory Duties

  • School Leadership: Direct supervision and evaluation of Principals across all three district school sites (K-12), and the Preschool Cottage Director.
  • District Directors: Oversight of the Executive Director of Student Services and the Director of Innovation.
  • Technical & Administrative Staff: Supervision of the District Systems and Data Coordinator and assigned Administrative Assistant.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of five years of successful experience in school or district-level administration.
  • Licensure: Hold, or be eligible to obtain, a Colorado Initial or Professional Administrator license within three months of hire.
  • Leadership & Vision: Proven ability to inspire a shared vision, motivate instructional excellence, and model a service-oriented approach to administration.
  • Curriculum & Instruction: Extensive experience leading district-wide curriculum development, K-12 instructional alignment, and assessment systems.
  • Staff Development: Expertise in designing and coordinating comprehensive professional development models tailored to diverse teacher calendars and site-based needs.
  • Pedagogical Knowledge: Deep familiarity with the IB (International Baccalaureate) framework, Colorado Academic Standards, and Common Core, including their implications for high-leverage instructional practices.
  • Operational Oversight: Strong skills in organizing, supervising, and evaluating large-scale educational programs and services.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Demonstrated success in partnering with principals to design and deliver site-specific staff development and instructional models.
  • Communication: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven track record of maintaining positive relations with staff, parents, and the community.
  • Equity & Achievement: A steadfast commitment to ensuring high academic achievement and equitable outcomes for all students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D or enrolled in a program working toward the degree
  • Superintendent Licensure
  • Spanish Bilingual

 Work Environment

  • Office environment; exposure to computer screens
  • Primary functions may require maintaining the physical condition necessary for sitting for prolonged periods of time; use of a computer keyboard; lifting of files and tests. 

Essential Physical Requirements

  • Physical: Reaching, walking, standing, sitting, typing, talking, crouching, kneeling, seeing, and hearing. Lifting up to 25lbs.
